About GSBDA

The Greater Seattle Bird Dog Association is a group of  people who enjoy working with pointing bird dogs. GSBDA is associated with The National Shoot-to-Retrieve Association (NSTRA). We conduct NSTRA field trials, fun trials and training events for pointing breeds, usually in the Fort Lewis Area or near Moses Lake. If you have a pointing dog you want to train, our group can help.

Observers are always welcome at our trials and fun days. Introduce yourself, ask about safety regulations and ask questions.  You may walk along with the permission of the judge or watch from the gallery.  You will see some beautiful bird dogs and some of the best gun dogs in the Northwest.

Fun Trials

Fun trials are similar to regular trials in format BUT they are more relaxed and informal.  The judges or other members can coach you and offer insights.  You can use training aids such as check cords, training collars and bells.  They are a wonderful training tool for both you and your dog.

GSBDA FUN TRIAL ENTRY FORM

All our trials are walking trials with live birds.  The handler may do his own shooting or enlist someone (usually another member) to be the gunner. Dogs do NOT have to be steady to wing or shot for NSTRA trials.  See Judging Guidelines

NSTRA

The National Shoot-to-Retrieve Field Trial Association's field trials were started by a group of dedicated bird hunters who were looking for a way to extend the fun they enjoyed with their bird dogs after their season ended. Field Trials based on hunting conditions were the answer. They not only extend the season, they also provide a sportsmanlike environment where they can compete with others who enjoy bird dogs.

The Association was incorporated in 1978, and is a non-profit association with service to the members and sportsmanship as its goal. There are currently 30 NSTRA Regions serving our members in the lower 48 States and Canada. Our region is NW NSTRA.

Training Days

We all want good, polite, trained hunting companions. If you have a dog that needs help, come on out. If you have an older dog but can help others, come on out. This is a great way to meet new dog owners, get training tips or even find a contact for that next dog you may be looking for.

We hope to hear from all of you. Call with questions.
